How old do I have to be to join? |
To join you have to be between the ages of 13 and 17 |
Can I do all the activities you offer straight away? |
I'm afraid not. Some activities have age limits while others need you
to have completed a certain amount of training so that you are
properly prepared. It's all safety first. |
If I join the ATC do I have to join the RAF? |
No, this ended a very long time ago. Although a large proportion of
officers and airmen serving in the RAF have been air cadets. |
Do I have to buy my own uniform? |
Yes and No. You will be given all of the basic RAF blue uniform
apart from the shoes. You will also have to purchase some kit for the
activities we do, although sometimes provision can be made to lend
you this kit. |
How long can I stay in the ATC as a cadet? |
You can stay a cadet until you are 18 years old. If you reach the rank
of Sergeant before your 18th birthday you can continue until you are
20 as an 'Instructor' cadet. |
How much do I have to pay to be a cadet? |
You will have to pay an annual subscription which works out at
just over a pound a week. This is very good value considering the
activities that you will do as a cadet, flying alone would cost you
about £100 a go at a private flying school. |
Do I have to attend every parade night? |
No, of course we would like it if you attended as many as possible
but we understand that sometimes you may have lots of school work
or cannot attend for other reasons. We just ask that you let us know. |
When can I join? |
We have started an intake scheme with 2
intakes a year. These are
normally in September and February each year. If you are interested
in joining please contact the squadron to find out the date of the next
intake. |
