Dec 06 - Christmas Dinner
|
|
The
cadets, staff committee and friends of the squadron
enjoyed another fabulous night dinning in the Victory
College Mess in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst
as way of bringing the year to a close. This year
the Squadron was joined by Commodore Gower of the Royal
Navy as the Guest of Honour and after dinner speaker.
Also present were two ex-cadets who are now serving
in the RAF, one as a Jaguar Pilot and one having just
graduated from RAFC Cranwell. The traditional
formal dinner was followed by the equally traditional
disco.

OCT 06 - Crowborough Camp
|
|
23
cadets enjoyed a weekend of adventure training at Crowborough
Army Camp in Sussex. Eight New recruits took part
in their first AT weekend, learning the initial
expedition training element of their 1st class training.
The more experience cadets spent the weekend under
canvas, learning how to live in the field under bashas,
living off the trusty 24 hour ration pack. The
weekend ended for all the cadets with a run over the
obstacle course.

SEP 06 - D of E Exped to Dorset.
|
|
15
cadets and staff from 1075 Sqn enjoyed a weekend away
on the Isle of Purbeck near Swanage in Dorset most completing
their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award practice expedition.
Three cadets also completed their actual expedition.
The area made a change from the usual areas used,
with the added benefit of the Jurassic coastline to
walk along.

SEP 06 - Wheel
for Wings Challenge
|
|
The
Squadron has embarked on its latest funraising challenge
the Wheel for Wings Challenge, raising money for the
RAF Assocaition. For more details click

AUG 06 - More Chinook Flying
|
|
15
cadets and staff from 1075 Sqn enjoyed another flight
in a 27 Sqn Chinook. This flight left RAF Odiham
on a 3 hour training sortie going out over RAF Benson
and RAF Brize Norton before returning to RAF Odiham.

AUG 06 - Chinook Flying
|
|
Eighteen
cadets enjoyed the thrill of a low level helicopter
flight when they joined 27 Squadron on a training sortie
in the Chinook. The flight from nearby RAF Odiham
included low level flying over the surrounding countryside
and hooking up underslung loads.

JUL 06 - Visit to the Council
|
|
Cadets
and staff of 1075 Squadron got a guided tour of the
offices of Surrey Heath Borough Council by the Squadron
President Cllr Stevenson. The cadets got to see
the members chamber where the council debates local
issues and saw important items such as the council mace
and royal charter. They also got to see the
exclusive realm of the Mayor's parlour. Cllr Stevenson
explained the roles of the council and how they make
the decisions that effect the local community.

JUL 06 - Annual Inspection
|
|
This
year the Squadron held its annual inspection at the
nearby Gibraltar Barracks, home of the Royal Engineer's
Combat Engineers School. The inspection officer
was Lt Col Panton, Commandant of the Cadet Training
Centre at Frimley Park. Awards were presented
to ICdt
Sgt Twyford (West Trophy for the best NCO), Cdt Bull (York Cup
for the best all round cadet and the attendance cup), Cdt Janzan (Gigg
Shield for the best new recruit), Cdt Bento (Lilley Trophy for the
pursuit of excellence), and Cdt Hastings (Field sports trophy).
Young Lifesaver Plus certificates were also awarded
to 9 cadets, with 3 being awarded Bronze National Navigation
Award Scheme certificates. Three cadets were awarded
their squadron marksman badges and ICdt Sgt Twyford
became the latest recipient of a BTEC 1st Diploma in

MAY 06 - RAFA Conference
|
|
ASgt
Parker attended this year's RAFA Conference in Blackpool
with four cadets (ICdt FS Tester, Cdt Cpl Thomas, Cdt
Brooks, and Cdt Horsman) to receive a certificate for
winning the RAFA Top Flight Competition. The certificate
was presented to the cadets on stage by the current
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Glenn
Torpey. The cadets also helped to 'sell' this
year's Top Flight Competition, manning a stand in the
foyer, speaking to delegates including both serving
and retired RAF personnel.

MAY 06 - AT Camp
|
|
Twenty
cadets along with three staff went away for a weekend
adventure training in one of the army training areas
near Bordon, Hampshire. The cadets were split
into two groups basic and senior. The basic group
were those cadets who had not been away before. They
learnt campcraft skills such as field catering, setting
up a campsite and how to pack their kit. They
also had a basic navigation lesson walking through the
surrounding countryside. The senior cadets did
more advanced map reading training and fieldcraft training.
The camp finished with everyone running the obstacle
course at Longmoor army camp.

MAY 06 - Medals at the Wing Athletics
|
|
The
Squadron was successful at this years Surrey Wing inter-Sqn
Athletics Meet coming third in the overall intermediate
boys category. A number of medals were won by;
Cdt Bull (Bronze - Snr Boys Discus), Cdt Hyatt (Silver
- Jnr boys 400 m), Cdt Cpl Pace (Silver - intermediate
boys javelin), and Cdt Brewer (Silver - Snr girls 1500
m, and Bronze - Snr girls Javelin). The intermediate
boys also won Silver in the 4 x 100 m relay, the team
was; Cdt McLaughlin, Cdt Cpl Pace, Cdt Cpl Koulouris
and Cdt Cpl Loveland.

APR 06 - RAFA Top Flight competition - VIP trip to Cyprus
|
|
After
the squadron won the inaugural Top Flight competition
for 2005, cadets and staff had the week of a lifetime
visiting RAF Akrotiri to see the Red Arrows training.
The trip included a VIP day at RAF Brize Norton,
where the cadets got to attempt to land a VC10 in a
simulator before tours of both the VC10 and Tristar
aircraft. The squadron was presented with a framed
print from OC Admin Wing, RAF Brize Norton and a Red
Arrows book by RAFA for winning the competition. Cdt
Horsman was also awarded a certificate of appreciation
for his efforts in the fundraising.
In Cyprus the cadets
and staff got to sit in both the pre-flight brief and
post display debrief with the Red Arrows, and got to
watch their display from a spectacular cliff top location.
A chat with the Station Commander and a tour of
an 84 Sqn Griffin Helicopter followed before the mandatory
trip to the beach to build sand castles. The story

MAR 06 - Caving
|
|
Ten
cadets went underground when they went caving near Redhill.
The trip was organised by Flt Lt Sullivan the
Wing Adventure Training Officer to a disused mine.

FEB 06 - Squadron gets a new Chaplain
|
|
The
Reverend Bruce Nicole of the nearby St Michael's Church
has now been appointed as the new squadron Chaplain He
was presented with a certificate of appointment by the
Regional Chaplain Rev Christopher Miles at a brief ceremony
at the squadron HQ. Rev Nicole replaces Rev Baty
who stepped down due to ill health. Rev Nicole
will now be involved in the moral and ciitizenship training
of the cadets and provide assistance in welfare matters.

FEB 06 - Squadron win's RAFA Top Flight competition
|
|
The
squadron has successfully won the Royal Air Forces Association's
Top Flight competition for imaginative fundraising for
the RAFA wings appeal. The prize is a VIP trip
to Cyprus to see the Red Arrows. More details

FEB 06 - Luftwaffe Pilot
|
|
A unique talk took place at with squadron
from a second world war pilot who flew with the German
Luftwaffe. He gave an interesting talk about his
career, with experiences ranging from flying non-stop
to Japan to being a prisoner of war in Lincolnshire.
All present found the talk very interesting with
some asking him to sign books and pictures. The
squadron presented him with a converted 1075 squadron
paperweight.

JAN 06 - Squadron AGM
|
|
Tonight the squadron held its Annual General
Meeting require to re-elect the committee, especially
the executive posts. Mrs Deb Loveland was voted
in a the new Chairman replacing Mr Martin Horncastle
who stepped down as he is leaving the country later
on in the year. Mr Alan Loveland replaced Mrs
Loveland as Treasurer, and Mr Ian Allan became the new
Vice-Chairman. Mrs Sue Hoare was re-elected as
Secretary.

JAN 06 - Cheque presented to RAFA
|
|
The squadron recently
presented a cheque for £1421.76 to the Camberley &
Bagshot Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association.
The money was raised through sponsorship of the
