The idea is to raise money through collections and
sponsorship by rolling a tyre from a Boeing 747 “Jumbo Jet”. The
tyre will be rolled at as many events as possible during the Wings
Appeal collection period (September and October), accumulating as
many miles as possible.

Launch by the Mayor

The Mayor of Surrey Heath launched the
Wheel for Wings challenge at 1075 Squadron's Headquarters.
He signed our Supporters board pledging his support
to the cause of raising money for RAFA.
He also officially named the wheel "Winston",
in honour of Winston Churchill. After all it was
Churchill who named the Battle of Britain pilots "The
Few".

One - Cadet Training Centre Frimley Park

Six cadets pushed the wheel to an open
day held at the nearby Cadet Training Centre at Frimley
Park from the Squadron HQ. This naturally got
many interested and strange looks from members of the
public on the way.

Two - Morris Men @ Dog & Partridge, Yateley

Eight cadets rolled the wheel from Camberley
Town Centre, where they had been helping the local RAFA
branch collecting for the Wings Appeal, to the Dog &
Partridge pub in Yateley, Hampshire. Here there
was a Beer Festival and International Morris Dancing
event. The wheel was rolled in front of the crowd before
the traditional English dancing commenced

Three - Camberley AC 3 km fun run
|

Cadets rolled the wheel around the 3
km course of the Camberley Athletics Club Fun Run held
at Kings International College. After successfully
completing the race the cadets involved were awarded
medals. The Wheel was also rolled from the Squadron
HQ to the starting point.

Four - Brooklands Museum
|

Thirteen cadets attended the Morgan
day at Brooklands Museum with the Wheel. The wheel
was rolled around the surviving section of the famous
banked racing circuit and up the Test Hill, which goes
up to a 1:4 gradient at its summit.

Eight - RAF Odiham
|

One cold Sunday morning seven cadets
took the wheel down the runway at RAF Odiham. The
Station Commander was present to start the run and accomanied
the cadets the length of the runway in his car.
